The abandonment of premises in a property management context is an ongoing problem and is one that requires understanding, proactive communication to mitigate a lessor’s losses and a pragmatic approach to finding workable solutions before the issue arises.
Participants in this session will come to understand:
- How and where issues of abandonment arise;
- How to communicate to find workable solutions when potential incidents arise;
- Section 77 of the RTA regarding abandoned premises
- Section 79 & 80A Abandoned goods and documents
- Relevant processes and legal obligations when dealing with abandoned properties and goods.
- Best practice strategies for dealing with abandoned goods to mitigate risk for the Lessor and agency.
- Potential risks will be discussed:
- As it relates to the Lessor regarding financial losses in situations of abandonment
- To property managers if they breach the Residential Tenancies Act by not understanding correct procedure as it relates to abandoned premises.
